Learn the importance of First Aid Training.. Now

Ask yourself this question, If the situation arises, Will you know how to respond? Will you know how to save the life of another human being? Will you know how to Apply First Aid.
No Doubt we have all completed a first aid course at some point in our life.
But did you remember what you were taught?

Sadly the answer to this question is usually “No”.
The reason for this is that most Training organisations focus on pushing a large volume of clients through their first aid courses, but they don’t take the time to teach you or your staff properly. This is why, when you come out of a first course, you seem to know it, But 2 days later the knowledge becomes hazy, and 2 weeks later it’s gone.
The fact is – When we learn, If we don’t understand a concept, we will not understand how to practice the concept correctly, and thus we will not retain the knowledge.
Let me give a very basic example: Cast your mind back to your primary school years, to when we learnt the alphabet, No doubt many years have past since then. Now the question is this… Do you still Remember what you learnt.
The answer is usually “Yes”, Let’s ask ourselves why this is so? The answer is because we were taught correctly, and if we didn’t understand at first, then the teacher would spend more time on us, until we understood the concepts. Thus we remembered the lesson many years later.
Let me give another interesting example – For most of us over the age of 30, it’s been about 15 years since we left school.
We graduated, everything went fine. But today, most of us don’t remember our basic high school mathematics, Be honest.. who still remembers how to do long division, or long subtraction, or long multiplication, But everybody seems to remember long addition. This is basic maths we are talking about, Not Pythagoras Theorem,Trigonometry or Calculus.
Interesting.. Isn’t It?
The reason for this is because we knew it at the time but we have not put this knowledge into practice for about 15years, As opposed to the alphabet example (we practise using words and letters everyday).
When it comes to our Senior first aid short course, or as it is now known as “Apply First Aid”.
It is absolutely crucial to be taught the concepts correctly, and further to this, it is crucial that re-accreditation is managed efficiently to ensure the knowledge of the first aider is current.
In the case of childcare centres, Re-Accreditation is critical to the business to avoid legal problems with Department of Children’s Services (DOCS)

When it comes to childcare, Because we are dealing with children, it is critical that we cater the training for the childcare environment, Our children deserve no less that top quality first aid.
Let’s be honest first aid training is essential for babysitters,Legally and morally.

The nature of children is to discover, Thus they will stick things up their nose, in their mouth and ears, they will attempt to cut each others hair to impress mummy and daddy

(god bless their little hearts), All the parents out their and childcare professionals know all too well what i’m talking about here, and it is for this reason that accidents and emergencies occur.
For those of you who don’t have children, You need to understand that children feel primarily with their mouth, not their fingers, at least in the early stages of life, and it is by this process that they discover.
To them the world is New, and all they want to do is be the best at everything.
The girls above are cutting each others hair so that they can show “Mummy and Daddy” and be proud of how grown up they are (Supposedly), But …. What if the girl in the yellow dress suddenly makes a snap decision, out of nowhere, and gets a brilliant idea, she gets really enthusiastic about it,
She quickly turns her head to tell her sister, and the scissors slice the right side of her skull.
Keep in mind, Mum and Dad are not home yet, and she’s bleeding badly because the blood vessels are close to the skin.

As for the 2 boys above.. Trying to blow up a balloon with your nose, to a child is pretty cool, It’s also hard work, (Try it some time). If the child is committed enough, and assuming he doesn’t let the balloon go… this could result in the child fainting or collapsing.
and as for our famous mini maglite ad, Not much needs to be said here, This is a brilliant marketing idea from maglite…”Look what happens when you stick a maglite up your nose”.
With all due respect to “Maglite” they have brilliant products, and i’m not trying to slander them here. But i’m not sure what direction they were taking with this product, Yes it’s small, i get it, but, personally, i think the standard minimags work just fine on a keychain, they don’t need to be smaller, and most importantly, You can’t stick it up your nose.
If a child saw this ad, and they bought a mini maglite and stuck it up their nose, they would be a God in the schoolyard, They would have superhero status, among other children, Let’s be honest, to a child this is the coolest thing in the world, They’ve just discovered that a light can come out of your nose. How awesome. and it’s all good and fair until breathing is obstructed and life is threatened.
(For those of you who are thinking, He still has a another nostril to breath out of, Fair enough, But here’s food for thought, 1 light out of your nose is cool, but in about 10 seconds, it will occur to the boy that 2 Lights at a time is even better).
And the Good’Old UHU stick…
This little thing is legendary. Every kid looks at it and says, “What’s a UHU stick, it’s round, it’s smooth, and you better believe that this is going into every childs mouth, if they find it, and then if they discover how to remove the cap, It becomes a lollipop that tastes weird.
But the same emergencies are not relevant in an industrial or work situation. Simply put, small children do not play with heavy machinery or tools.
I’m not going to provide photos here on Industrial accidents, Due to the graphic content, (It’s get pretty gruesome) and it’s not appropriate for this site. if you like, You can google “Industrial accidents” and go to google images. make sure you have a strong stomach.
